Cards Against Humanity, known for its edgy humor and irreverent approach, has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Elon Musk and his company SpaceX. The lawsuit, submitted on September 19, 2024, in Texas, centers on a plot of land near Brownsville that the company purchased in 2017 to counter then-President Donald Trump\u2019s proposed border wall.<\/p>\n

Cards Against Humanity acquired the vacant land with the financial backing of 150,000 patrons, who each paid $15. The company aimed to protect the property from what they termed \u201cracist billionaire Donald Trump\u2019s very stupid wall.\u201d For years, they kept the land pristine, but trouble arose when SpaceX began using the land without permission while working on nearby projects at their headquarters, SpaceX Starbase.<\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit, SpaceX workers have been dumping materials on Cards Against Humanity\u2019s land for months, significantly altering the once-untouched area. The company accused SpaceX of ignoring property lines, clearing vegetation, and transforming the land into a makeshift construction site filled with tractors, gravel, and other debris. In a pointed statement, Cards Against Humanity noted:<\/p>\n

\u201cSeven years ago, 150,000 people paid us $15 to protect a pristine parcel of land on the US-Mexico border from racist billionaire Donald Trump\u2019s very stupid wall. Unfortunately, an even richer, more racist billionaire \u2014 Elon Musk \u2014 snuck up on us from behind and completely f***ed that land with gravel, tractors, and space garbage.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After discovering the unauthorized use of their land, Cards Against Humanity reached out to SpaceX. In response, Musk\u2019s company offered to buy the land for less than half its worth and demanded a response within 12 hours. The company stood firm, famously replying:<\/p>\n

\u201cGo f*** yourself, Elon Musk. We\u2019ll see you in court.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One of the main motivations behind the lawsuit is to restore the trust of the 150,000 patrons who funded the land purchase. If successful, the $15 million award would be distributed among these patrons, with each receiving $100. Cards Against Humanity has long been involved in various social and political causes, reflecting their commitment to activism.<\/p>\n

Cards Against Humanity has a history of bold and quirky campaigns. In 2014, they sold boxes of bull poop on Black Friday, donating part of the proceeds to charity. In 2017, they sent over 2,000 potatoes to Senator Ron Johnson\u2019s office as a protest, each labeled with a call for him to hold a town hall. More recently, they donated profits from sales in red states to the National Network of Abortion Funds.<\/p>\n
