Strands<\/em> is the New York Times\u2019 newest daily puzzle, offering a fresh twist on the traditional word search. It\u2019s a bit more challenging and requires sharp observation skills to solve.<\/p>\n

How to Play Strands<\/em><\/h3>\n

The objective of Strands<\/em> is to find specific \u201ctheme words\u201d hidden within a grid of letters. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping, and once you\u2019ve found a word, double-tap the last letter to lock it in. If the word is part of the puzzle\u2019s theme, the letters will turn blue and won\u2019t be available for future use.<\/p>\n

Even if the word you discover isn\u2019t a theme word, it\u2019s still useful! For every three valid words you find (that are at least four letters long), you\u2019ll receive a hint. This hint will reveal letters of one of the theme words, making it easier to unscramble.<\/p>\n

Every letter in the puzzle is used exactly once to spell out the theme words \u2014 there\u2019s no overlap between words.<\/p>\n

Additionally, each Strands<\/em> puzzle includes a \u201cspangram\u201d \u2014 a special theme word that touches two opposite sides of the grid and highlights the overall puzzle theme. When you find it, the spangram will appear yellow.<\/p>\n

The goal is to solve the puzzle as quickly as possible while minimizing the use of hints.<\/p>\n
