The government of Israel declared war on Sunday and gave green light to its military to take significant steps to retaliate against Hamas for its surprise attack, as the military tried to crush the fighters still in the southern towns and intensified its bombarding of the Gaza strip. Death toll has passed 1,100 and thousands have been wounded on both sides.<\/p>\n
More than 24 hours after took Israel by surprise, the country\u2019s military are still fighting to push back the militants holed up in several towns. At least 700 people of Israel have reportedly been killed, a staggering toll which the country has not experienced in decades. Meanwhile, on the other side, more than 400 have been killed as Israel pounded the Gaza territory.<\/p>\n
The declaration of war was followed by another announcement that the country is looking at a long and difficult war ahead. The question is whether Israel would launch a ground assault into Gaza, a move which had backfired in the past. Meanwhile, in the northern Israel a brief exchange of strikes with Lebanon\u2019s Hezbollah militant group fanned fear that the war could open on multiple fronts.<\/p>\n
