The original Borderlands game was a trailblazer in popularizing the \u201clooter shooter\u201d genre, which cleverly combines the excitement of first-person shooting with the addictive loot-collecting mechanics found in games like Diablo 4. While other titles, such as Destiny 2 and The First Descendant, have shifted the genre towards live-service models with ongoing content updates, the Borderlands series has stayed true to its roots, focusing on a strong single-player and co-op experience. Borderlands 3, in particular, shines when played with friends, offering a far richer experience in co-op mode than solo.<\/p>\n

However, Borderlands 3 was released during a time of transition between console generations, making it available on a wide range of systems across different platforms. This raises the challenge of achieving full cross-platform compatibility, which means allowing players on different systems to play together. The big question is whether Borderlands 3 can bring all these platforms together or if it will leave some behind, as we\u2019ve seen with games like Valorant.<\/p>\n

So, is Borderlands 3 cross-platform?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The answer is yes\u2014Borderlands 3 now supports full cross-platform play across all systems, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC (both Steam and Epic). This wasn\u2019t always the case, but since 2022, players on any of these platforms can join forces and play together.<\/p>\n

However, cross-progression, which allows you to carry your progress from one platform to another, is where things get tricky. Unfortunately, you can\u2019t transfer your character between different platforms, except between Steam and Epic Games on PC. This limitation means that if you\u2019re playing on a console and want to switch to a different one, you can\u2019t take your character with you. That said, you can still transfer your gear to a new account on a different platform using the trading system.
