Any part in Star Wars is significant. Today\u2019s actors almost definitely spent their formative years exploring the fictional places George Lucas imagined in the far-off galaxy. Even if it\u2019s only for a few lines or a single scene, getting to play in that sandbox is always exciting.<\/p>\n
Billie Lourd is a Star Wars fanatic, unlike most others. After all, Carrie Fisher, who played Leia Organa in the Star Wars films and is unquestionably one of the finest Star Wars characters, rose to fame in Hollywood. When the Star Wars series made a comeback in the 2010s with three new films, Lourd seized the opportunity to join the cast.<\/p>\n
In the end, Lourd played Lieutenant Connix, a Resistance warrior, in each of the Sequel Trilogy\u2019s three episodes. However, there was a period when she was considered for a considerably larger role in each of the final three Star Wars films. She certainly would have performed admirably.<\/p>\n
Lourd said to Ellen DeGeneres in 2017 that she first auditioned to play Rey (we won\u2019t name her Skywalker), the protagonist of the whole trilogy. In the end, it was Daisy Ridley who landed the high-paying part, joining Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and John Boyega as Finn in the new group of heroes.<\/p>\n
\u201cJ.J. Abrams called me to come in for Star Wars because he couldn\u2019t find someone for the lead,\u201d said Lourd. \u201cI went in and he ended up giving me this tiny role with a couple of lines and I was super excited. I didn\u2019t know what was going to happen, ended up going and fell in love with it \u2014 was weirdly singing Jersey Boys on set, really comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Prior to Carrie Fisher\u2019s untimely death in December 2016, Lourd said it was \u201cincredible\u201d to collaborate with her mother on some of the franchise\u2019s finest films. Lourd said: \u201cI\u2019m a big believer in things happening for a reason and I think I ended up in that movie for a reason. It was really incredible for us to have that experience together.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to being a body duplicate for the young Leia in flashback scenes during The Rise of Skywalker, Lourd did some excellent work in her minor part. But we really appreciate what Daisy Ridley accomplished with Rey, and we firmly believe that Rey merits her own Star Wars film.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
