\u201cHe said, \u2018What are you gonna (do), teach your kids to lie? You gotta be open. You gotta go out\u2026 I want to help you. How can we do this?'\u201d said the Grammy winner. \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018All right, Dad, I\u2019m working on it. Gimme a second. I don\u2019t know how. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s through an interview. I don\u2019t know if I want to write a letter and tweet it. I don\u2019t know. Gimme a break. It\u2019ll come.\u201d<\/p>\n
He came out to his mom at age 18. \u201cShe was concerned because she was, \u2018Oh my God, I just don\u2019t want you to hurt and people out there are really cruel\u2019, and so it took her a minute to accept it. But, when I did it, I made sure she was on an aeroplane on her way to see me. So, she was on her aeroplane, and I did what I did,\u201d Ricky said. \u201cI wrote a letter, and I tweeted it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ultimately, coming out was rewarding for Ricky. \u201cI wish I could come out 20 times. It felt amazing. Of course, I started crying like a baby.
