Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk have accused Google of running \u201cracist, anti-civilisational programming\u201d with its artificial intelligence (AI) models. This comes after Google paused the ability for Gemini AI to generate images of people, as controversy erupted over inaccuracies in AI-generated historical images.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m glad that Google overplayed their hand with their AI image generation, as it made their insane racist, anti-civilisational programming clear to all,\u201d Musk wrote on X. The controversy erupted when images generated by Gemini AI depicted specific white figures, like the US Founding Fathers and Nazi-era German soldiers as \u201cpeople of colour.\u201d<\/p>\n
In an earlier statement, the company said it was aware that Gemini is offering inaccuracies in some historical image generation depictions. \u201cGemini\u2019s AI image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that\u2019s generally a good thing because people around the world use it. But it\u2019s missing the mark here,\u201d the company had admitted.<\/p>\n
The Tesla billionaire also targeted Gemini\u2019s product lead, Jack Krawczyk. Krawczyk stated on Wednesday that Gemini\u2019s image-generating skills are designed to \u201creflect our global user base.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m not picking on some rando. This nut is a big part of why Google\u2019s AI is so racist & sexist,\u201d Musk wrote.<\/p>\n
