Due to hundreds of millions of US dollars of funding gaps, the World Food Programme (WFP) issued a stark warning about the dire situation, Dujarric said, noting the WFP\u2019s difficult decision to \u201cprioritise scarce resources to the new arrivals\u201d means that \u201cpre-existing refugees no longer receive assistance,\u201d a move that starkly illustrates the harsh realities of aid distribution in times of crisis.<\/p>\n
The UN\u2019s persistent alarms over the humanitarian situation in Sudan stressed the urgency, with \u201c18 million acutely food insecure people within the country,\u201d many of whom are \u201ctrapped in areas of active fighting,\u201d the UN Spokesperson said as quoted by Xinhua news agency report. As the lean season looms, the UN\u2019s plea is clear: agencies need the means to \u201cprovide support to families in Sudan\u201d to avert \u201ca hunger catastrophe.\u201d<\/p>\n
