In order to make the competition fairer and provide users with much more options, the European Union has reached out to another six tech giants including Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft, to put pressure on them with their new far-fetched rules.<\/p>\n
Facebook parent company Meta, Google parent company Alphabet, and TikTok owner ByteDance were also labelled as online \u201cgatekeepers\u201d subject to the strictest requirements of the 27-nation EU\u2019s Digital Markets Act. The list of do\u2019s and don\u2019ts seeks to prevent these tech giants from cornering digital markets by whopping fines on it and even forcing the companies to sell off parts of their business in order to continue their business in the EU.<\/p>\n
This means that the users will soon be able to send messages to rival platforms, avoid having their data used to show them personalised ads, and can also choose whichever search engine they prefer rather than sticking to the default one.<\/p>\n
European Commissioner Thierry Breton, who is currently in charge of the bloc\u2019s digital policy stated, \u201cThe most impactful online companies will now have to play by our EU rules.\u201d<\/p>\n
