The 2nd SDG Global Summer School, themed \u201cSDG for a Shared Future,\u201d has kicked off virtually, drawing over a thousand young participants from 82 countries and regions. The event, which began with a virtual opening ceremony on July 31st, is aimed at fostering innovative approaches towards sustainable development over the next two weeks.<\/p>\n
During the ceremony, Professor HE Lianzhen, Vice President of Zhejiang University (ZJU), highlighted the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a collective vision for the betterment of humanity and the planet. She underlined ZJU\u2019s dedication to the UN\u2019s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through its \u201cA Global ZJU for Social Good (Z4G)\u201d sustainability action plan.<\/p>\n
Encouraging students to translate their learning into action, Prof. HE Lianzhen urged them to contribute to sustainable development, world peace, global development, international order, and human civilization.<\/p>\n
The event\u2019s inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. CHU Chiheng, Deputy Director of the Office of Global Engagement, who shared ZJU\u2019s achievements in sustainable development across education, research, and green campus initiatives. He emphasized that the Summer School, now upgraded to the 2023 edition, embodies the concept of a shared future for mankind.<\/p>\n
The Summer School comprises five academic modules aligned with seven sustainable development goals, covering topics such as Carbon Neutrality, Inclusive Development, Smart City, Data Visualization, and Networked Autonomous Systems. Additionally, a non-curricular cultural activity, \u201c14-Day Tasks,\u201d is designed to provide students with insights into China and Zhejiang University.<\/p>\n
Through this event, students from diverse regions and cultures will engage in a comprehensive two-week exploration of sustainable development, guided by esteemed professors from ZJU and partner institutions like Cambridge University, Imperial College London, Yale University, and more.
