The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea for now to take up a landmark over whether Donald Trump is absolutely immune from prosecution for alleged crimes committed while he held office, a move that allows the appeals process to play out first.<\/p>\n
The court issued a one-line, unsigned order denying the request from special counsel Jack Smith, \u201cThe petition for a writ of certiorari before judgement is denied.\u201d There were no noted dissents.<\/p>\n
The decision by Supreme Court is a blow to Smith and his team of prosecutors, who have pushed the courts to move quickly to hold trials in the Washington case and the second prosecution in Florida, before the presidential elections swings into full gear. Meanwhile, the former president\u2019s attorneys have urged the court to delay the trial until after the election.<\/p>\n
The special counsel declined to comment on the court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n
