Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump\u2019s campaign lawyer, is ordered by a federal judge to pay $148 million in damages to two 2020 Georgia election workers for falsely accusing them of election fraud.<\/p>\n
The verdict for Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss, represent a huge reversal for the former federal prosecutor and one time mayor of New York, who was popularly known as America\u2019s mayor for his response to September 11, 2001, attacks.<\/p>\n
Upon being asked about his unproven conspiracy theories, Giuliani stated, \u201cI know that my country had a president imposed on it by fraud,\u201d to reporters outside the courthouse. He added that those are not conspiracy theories and are indeed facts, which he is barred from presenting.<\/p>\n
He vowed to appeal in a strident social media post.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe absurdity of the amount is indicative of the absurdity and unfairness of the entire proceeding,\u201d stated Giuliani. He also claimed that he was not able to offer any evidence in his defense.<\/p>\n
There was an audible gasp in the courtroom when the jury read out the damages. Freeman was awarded nearly $16.2 million, while Moss nearly $17 million in defamation charges.
