Representative Dean Phillips announced Friday that he won\u2019t be seeking reelection in 2024 as he continues a long-shot at President Joe Biden to challenge him in presidential election.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been the most joyful experience of my life representing the most civically engaged community in the nation of Congress,\u201d Philips said on X, formerly known as Twitter. He added that it is time for a change and the best are yet to come.<\/p>\n
Phillips, 54, was first elected in 2018 to represent Minnesota\u2019s 3rd district.<\/p>\n
In his statement, where he described his time at Congress as an \u201chonour of a lifetime,\u201d he said, \u201cI know my successor will serve you with invitation, integrity, and fortitude \u2013 because you will demand it \u2013 and all Americans deserve it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last month, Phillips started his presidential campaign joining Marianne Williamson in the Democratic field against Biden.<\/p>\n
Despite the criticism from Democrats, that his attempt will tarnish the president\u2019s image in general elections, Phillips has painted himself as a younger alternative of the 81-year-old commander in chief.<\/p>\n
Biden\u2019s campaign has so far mostly ignored Phillips\u2019 primary attempt, who has managed to achieve little support in early primary polls so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
