According to the acting head of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, he called on the Lebanese Authorities to cancel proposed bilateral exchanges with Israel as he saw these talks as \u201cfutile\u201d dealings towards disarming Hezbollah during Israel\u2019s continuous bombardment of Lebanon.<\/p>\n
In a televised speech, he requested that the authorities \u201ctake a historic heroic stance\u201d and not attend a meeting on Tuesday between the respective ambassadors to the United States from both countries, which is scheduled to occur in Washington, DC. Qassem said, \u201cThese talks are being conducted as a way to exert pressure [on Hezbollah] to abandon their armament\u2026Benjamin Netanyahu has always maintained that our disarmament is one of his main intentions.\u201d He also said, \u201cNegotiating with the occupying Israeli entity [state] is not possible, and we will not cease to exist, stop to exist, or submit to exist. We will allow the battlefield to speak for itself.\u201d<\/p>\n
As Israel intensifies military operations in Lebanon since the beginning of the conflict this month, the discussions are taking place while Israel continues to carry out airstrikes almost daily against targets throughout the country, including southern Lebanon, and numerous clashes are taking place between forces from both sides along the Lebanese-Israeli border.<\/p>\n
Since late October, Hezbollah has been conducting cross-border attacks against Israel, which have increased in intensity since launching rockets into Israel on behalf of Hamas in Gaza last month. As noted above, Qassem has promised that the resistance will not stop until there are no Israeli troops in Lebanon and the Israeli aggressors have stopped their aggression against the Lebanese people.<\/p>\n
The Lebanese government has not issued any formal responses to Qassem\u2019s demands. The meetings are part of a larger international initiative, in which the US is also involved, to negotiate a long-term ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government and address any border security issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
