House of David is an entertainment-based biblical drama series, offering viewers an opportunity to witness the various events surrounding King David\u2019s rise to power from shepherd to preordained king of Israel, based upon the biblical account but also illustrating more uniquely scripted moments\u2014such as David\u2019s conflict with King Saul, his bond with Jonathan and battle scenes, including the battle with Goliath.<\/p>\n
The first season debuted around February of 2025 and became a sleeper hit due largely to strong viewer numbers (over 40 million total viewers globally reported) during the first few months. Season two continues to show the evolution of David, as the rule of Saul has created instability for David\u2019s future, while David learns how to become a military leader and is now embroiled in conspiracy activities within King Saul\u2019s court through an early subscription release for Wonder Project subscribers in October of 2025 and then became available for all Prime Video customers on March 27, 2026 in its entirety.<\/p>\n
As of April 2026, no announcement regarding the continuation of House of David (Prime Video) has been made. There has yet to be a commencement of production for Season 3, and no finalized dates have been released.<\/p>\n
Jon Erwin (co-creator) has indicated multiple times that the House of David was originally conceived as a three-part series and he indicated that Season 1 \u2013 3 (or more specifically, Seasons 2 and 3) will focus on the \u201crise of David\u201d (his youth and the early stages of his reign), potentially leaving room for additional seasons regarding King David\u2019s life. As mentioned in many different interviews around the time of Season 2\u2019s release, he continues to emphasize that David had an extremely long life and there is \u201ca lot of history to tell\u201d. He also emphasizes that Season 2 is the \u201cmiddle\u201d portion of this trilogy.<\/p>\n
The House of David is similar to The Chosen, which is also a faith-based\/historical-based series, and both have been successful within their respective genres. When combining this with the fact that Amazon has access to the entire viewership data and information of Season 2, and is currently using that data to determine whether or not to renew the series.<\/p>\n
Fans and media speculate that based on historical data from shows, such as The Chosen, if renewed for Season 3 soon, the earliest possible date for release of Season 3 will be sometime late 2026 or early 2027, given that there is roughly a 8 to 12 month gap in-between seasons, along with the standard production timeline required for larger scale historical shows (generally research, location scouting, and visual effects take substantial time). While there is speculation by fans and YouTubers that a late Summer 2026 or Autumn 2026 release is achievable, this remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
The core cast is expected to return if Season 3 happens, centered on the ongoing biblical narrative:<\/p>\n
New characters could be introduced as the story progresses into alliances, exiles, or battles (e.g., involving Moab or other tribes).<\/p>\n
David\u2019s military training with Jonathan, opportunity for marriage and court intrigue, and the continued unraveling of Israel after the Goliath events of Season 2 will be the primary focus of Season 3 if renewed. Season 3 will likely continue the arc of David\u2019s \u201crise\u201d toward coronation. Events expected to be included in Season 3:<\/p>\n
Additionally, the themes surrounding the biblical accounts (such as faith, leadership\/failure, anointing, and the moral challenge of leadership) will continue as before.<\/p>\n
The creators have indicated that the series plans to continue into David\u2019s Kingship if it continues beyond this trilogy. The future series will maintain the same high level of production, battle scenes, emotional drama, and biblical storytelling accuracy, with some reviews commenting positively on the performances, visuals, and appeal to non-believing audiences.<\/p>\n
