{"id":114414,"date":"2026-03-30T09:54:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T13:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/?p=114414"},"modified":"2026-03-30T09:54:20","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T13:54:20","slug":"alex-duong-comedian-from-blue-bloods-dies-after-battle-with-rare-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/alex-duong-comedian-from-blue-bloods-dies-after-battle-with-rare-cancer\/114414\/","title":{"rendered":"Alex Duong, comedian from \u2018Blue Bloods\u2019, dies after battle with rare cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alex Duong, a 42-year-old\u00a0comedian and television actor who appeared on CBS\u2019s long-running series \u201c<strong>Blue Bloods<\/strong>\u201d as a recurring character, passed away on Saturday due to complications from alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (a rare and aggressive cancer that primarily affects children) after a year-long battle with this type of cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Duong passed away peacefully at <strong>St. John\u2019s Hospital in Santa Monica, California<\/strong>, on March 28, surrounded by his loved ones after going into septic shock the previous night according to his friend Hilarie Steele\u2019s statement: \u201c<em>With the heaviest hearts, we share that our dear Alex passed away peacefully this morning\u2026 He was comfortable, and thankfully, out of pain<\/em>\u201d (Steele posted these words on Duong\u2019s GoFundMe page).<\/p>\n<p>Duong was first diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in early 2025 after suffering from a severe headache and developing bulging from his left eye, at which point vision began to go away from that eye. He underwent surgery, then extensive chemo and radiation; however, the cancer metastasized to his spine by February 2026, when he became bedridden. <strong>Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma<\/strong> is considered extremely rare (with only several hundred reported cases per year in the US), and the prognosis for adults with this type of cancer is bleak.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his career, Duong has television credits for more than 40 episodes of various shows, including \u201c<strong>Dexter,<\/strong>\u201d \u201c<strong>Pretty Little Liars,<\/strong>\u201d \u201c<strong>Young and the Restless,\u201d<\/strong> and many others.<\/p>\n<p>Comedy Community Unites To Help Local Comedian.\u00a0Comedians banded together to raise <strong>$10,000<\/strong> in 2025 through a benefit show featuring Ronny Chieng and Atsuko Okatsuka!<\/p>\n<p>Duong said, \u201c<em>Comedians are always there for each other. We have each other\u2019s backs when times are tough.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dupong is survived by his wife, Christina, and daughter, Everest, age 5.
