In a big blow to Britain Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, on Wednesday, the country\u2019s Supreme Court ruled that the government\u2019s scheme to send asylum seekers to Rwanda was unlawful.<\/p>\n
The verdict comes a year ahead of the expected elections, putting Sunak\u2019s flagship immigration in tatters. He said that was working on a new treaty with Rwanda, and if this did not solve the issue, he would be compelled to pass new laws and revisit any international treaties which frustrated his plans.<\/p>\n
Under the scheme, Britain intended on sending tens of thousands of asylum seekers, who arrived at its shore, to the East African country in a bid to deter migrants crossing the Channel from Europe in small boats.<\/p>\n
It was ruled by the top court unanimously that Rwanda could not be considered a safe third country, delighting opponents who labelled the policy as cruel and unworkable, and infuriating those on the right wing of Sunak\u2019s Conservative Party.<\/p>\n
