Ahead of President Joe Biden\u2019s meeting with China\u2019s Xi Jinping, the White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan stated that Biden wishes to reestablish military-to-military ties with the Asian country.<\/p>\n
During Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco, the two leaders will meet for the first in a year on Wednesday. This will only be the second in-person meeting between the two since Biden took the office in January 2021.<\/p>\n
In an interview with CBS\u2019 \u2018Face The Nation\u2019, Sullivan said that Biden sees the military ties as interest of U.S. national security. \u201cWe need those lines of communication so that there aren\u2019t mistakes or miscalculations or miscommunication.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added that restored military ties could take place at every level, which includes senior leadership to the tactical operational level, as well \u201con the water and in the air in the Indo-Pacific.\u201d<\/p>\n
White House national security advisor said on CNN\u2019s \u2018State of the Union\u2019 that Biden would seek to \u201cadvance the ball\u201d on military-to-military ties during his meeting with Xi, however, he declined from sharing any further information.<\/p>\n
