At just 5-foot-8, he became the shortest player ever to record a 1,000-yard season. It was a huge achievement for the New York Giants slot receiver and showed just how explosive he can be.

That success also puts Robinson in an interesting spot for free agency. Some teams may see him as a smaller, limited player who is mainly useful for short passes near the line of scrimmage. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell notes that his size—5-foot-8 and 185 pounds—could make some teams hesitate, even though Robinson and other receivers with similar yardage totals produced at the same level.

But that view overlooks just how much Robinson has improved. He was a top recruit in high school and finally seemed to put everything together in 2025. He averaged 2.1 yards per route run, a big jump from 1.5 in 2023 and 1.3 in 2024. Most of that improvement came from catching the ball farther downfield. In 2023 and 2024, about 76% of his targets were within five yards of the line of scrimmage. That dropped to 63% in 2025, giving him more opportunities to make big plays. He caught four passes that traveled 25 yards or more through the air in 2025 after having only one such catch over the previous three seasons combined.

Robinson was also a key weapon for Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. The two connected well, and he helped make Dart’s transition smoother. The Giants also have Malik Nabers returning from injury in 2026, but the new regime led by John Harbaugh will need to ensure Dart has plenty of weapons to work with. Losing Robinson could leave a hole in that young offense.

Because of his breakout, Robinson could command a significant contract. Barnwell compares him to Curtis Samuel, another undersized second-round pick. Samuel had his best season just before free agency and signed a three-year, $34.5 million deal with Washington. Adjusted for the projected 2026 salary cap, that would be around $19.2 million per year. Robinson might not reach that level exactly, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he lands a deal worth $15 million or more per year. The Giants might see that as worth it to give Dart a top-tier playmaker while he’s still on a rookie contract.

For context, the largest deal ever for a slot receiver belongs to Bills wideout Khalil Shakir, who signed a four-year, $53 million contract last offseason. Robinson has a real shot at surpassing that if the Giants or another team decides to invest in him. His combination of speed, agility, and ability to make plays downfield makes him one of the most dangerous slot receivers in the league.

Robinson’s story shows how a player can turn potential into production. He overcame doubts about his size and consistently created big plays in 2025. Now, he could be on the verge of a payday that reflects just how valuable he has become. Teams that recognize his skill set could find themselves with a true game-changer in the slot.

Wan’Dale Robinson made NFL history in 2025.
