{"id":105295,"date":"2026-01-16T11:36:41","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T16:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/?p=105295"},"modified":"2026-01-16T12:00:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T17:00:28","slug":"trump-may-tax-countries-that-oppose-his-plan-for-greenland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/trump-may-tax-countries-that-oppose-his-plan-for-greenland\/105295\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump may tax countries that oppose his plan For Greenland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-path-to-node=\"1\"><span class=\"citation-131 citation-end-131\">President Donald Trump is suggesting new taxes on countries that do not help him take control of Greenland.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-130 citation-end-130\">He shared this idea during a health event at the White House on Friday morning.<\/span> The President believes that owning the island is a top priority for American national security. <span class=\"citation-129 citation-end-129\">He warned that if other nations do not agree with his plan he might use tariffs as a way to punish them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\"><span class=\"citation-128 citation-end-128\">This move comes after months of the President insisting that the United States needs the island for its defense.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-127 citation-end-127\">He is worried that if America does not act then Russia or China might try to take it over instead.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-126 citation-end-126\">Greenland is currently a self-governing territory that belongs to Denmark.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-125 citation-end-125\">The Danish government has already said very clearly that the island is not for sale and should remain independent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">World leaders and many people in Greenland are feeling nervous about these new threats. <span class=\"citation-124 citation-end-124\">Some European countries have even started sending military staff to the area just to keep an eye on things.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-123 citation-end-123\">Meanwhile a group of lawmakers from both parties in the U.S. traveled to Denmark to try and calm everyone down.<\/span> They want to show that not everyone in Washington agrees with the idea of taking over an ally\u2019s land.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">The President did not say exactly which countries he would target with these new taxes. <span class=\"citation-122 citation-end-122\">He did mention that he already put similar taxes on medicines coming from Europe to help lower costs at home.<\/span> It seems he views these trade rules as a powerful tool to get what he wants from other nations.
