{"id":105285,"date":"2026-01-16T12:10:17","date_gmt":"2026-01-16T17:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/?p=105285"},"modified":"2026-01-16T11:53:01","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T16:53:01","slug":"us-trade-officials-warns-canada-over-china-ev-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/us-trade-officials-warns-canada-over-china-ev-partnership\/105285\/","title":{"rendered":"US trade officials warns Canada over China EV partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-path-to-node=\"1\"><span class=\"citation-65 citation-end-65\">A top United States trade official is speaking out against Canada\u2019s new plan to bring in Chinese electric cars.<\/span> Jamieson Greer serves as the U.S. Trade Representative and he shared his concerns during a recent interview. <span class=\"citation-64 citation-end-64\">He called the decision to allow thousands of Chinese vehicles at low tax rates a big problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\"><span class=\"citation-63 citation-end-63\">Greer explained that the United States keeps its own taxes on these cars very high.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-62 citation-end-62\">This is done to protect American car companies and the people who work for them.<\/span> <span class=\"citation-61 citation-end-61\">He believes Canada\u2019s new move could end up hurting their own workers in the long run.<\/span> The official suggested that the Canadian government might eventually regret making this choice.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\"><span class=\"citation-60 citation-end-60\">The new deal means Canada will let about forty-nine thousand Chinese electric cars enter the country with a small tax of around six percent.<\/span> This is a huge drop from the previous one hundred percent tax. <span class=\"citation-59 citation-end-59\">In exchange for this change China agreed to lower taxes on Canadian farm products like canola seeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">Many leaders are worried that this trade deal will cause friction between Canada and its neighbors. <span class=\"citation-58 citation-end-58\">Some people in Ontario fear that cheap imports will flood the market and put local car manufacturing at risk.<\/span> They worry that if Canada becomes a gateway for Chinese goods it might lose its easy access to the American market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A top United States trade official is speaking out against Canada\u2019s new plan to bring in Chinese electric cars.
