Instagram is expanding its Meta AI-powered reel translation feature for users in India. The update adds support for five major regional languages. This move makes reels easier to understand for a much wider audience across the country.<\/p>\n
The rollout was first teased late last year. It is now gradually reaching users on Instagram and Facebook.<\/p>\n

Instagram reels can now be translated into Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi. Earlier, the feature mainly worked with English and a few global languages. That limited who could fully enjoy spoken content.<\/p>\n
With this update, Meta AI listens to the original audio and converts it into another language. The voice still sounds like the creator. The tone stays natural. Nothing feels robotic.<\/p>\n
There is also an optional lip-sync feature. When enabled, the translated audio matches the speaker\u2019s mouth movements. This makes the reel feel more real, as if the creator is speaking the viewer\u2019s language directly.<\/p>\n
This is especially useful for creators who rely on talking, storytelling, or explaining things on camera.<\/p>\n
Instagram is also improving its Edits tool. Creators can now use Indian scripts directly inside the app. Devanagari and Bengali Assamese fonts are now supported.<\/p>\n
This means text and captions can be written in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Assamese without using outside apps. Everything can be done within Instagram itself.<\/p>\n
Meta has also added clear labels to AI-translated reels. Viewers will always see that Meta AI was used. There are settings to turn translations off or watch the original version if they prefer.<\/p>\n
The language updates will roll out in phases over the next few days. Android users will start seeing the new font support very soon.<\/p>\n
