Shares of Danish energy company Orsted jumped more than 5% after a US judge allowed it to restart work on its offshore wind project. The decision is a setback for the Trump administration\u2019s push to block wind energy projects.<\/p>\n

A federal judge in Washington said stopping the project would seriously harm Orsted. Because of that, the court approved an injunction that lets construction continue while the legal case moves forward.<\/p>\n

The project is called Revolution Wind. It sits off the coast of Rhode Island. It was almost finished when the government ordered all work to stop in late December. At the time, construction was about 87% complete.<\/p>\n

Revolution Wind is a $5 billion project. It is expected to power around 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut once completed.<\/p>\n

The project is owned jointly by Orsted and Skyborn Renewables. Skyborn is part of Global Infrastructure Partners, which is owned by BlackRock.<\/p>\n

Orsted has already spent close to $5 billion on the project. The company said the shutdown was costing about $1.4 million every day.<\/p>\n

After the ruling, Orsted said work would restart as soon as possible. Safety will remain the top priority. The company said it is focused on delivering affordable and reliable power to the US northeast.<\/p>\n

The court decision comes weeks after the White House ordered a pause on five offshore wind projects along the East Coast. The administration said the halt was needed because of national security concerns raised by the Pentagon.<\/p>\n

During the hearing, the judge questioned that logic. He pushed back on the idea of stopping everything while the government reviews its position. He pointed out the high daily cost of the shutdown.<\/p>\n

The injunction will stay in place until the case is fully resolved. The Interior Department has not commented yet.<\/p>\n

Analysts say the financial impact of the pause on Orsted should be limited if no further delays happen. Estimates put the cost at around $15.6 million for this project.<\/p>\n

Attention is now shifting to another Orsted project called Sunrise Wind. That project is still suspended. A court hearing on that case is expected soon.<\/p>\n

Other wind energy companies may also benefit from the ruling. Analysts believe the decision lowers regulatory risk if courts continue to block the administration\u2019s moratorium.<\/p>\n

The offshore wind sector has been under political pressure. President Donald Trump has openly opposed wind projects and recently said he would not approve new windmills in the US.<\/p>\n

The current pause affects five major offshore wind developments. Companies impacted include Orsted, Equinor, and Dominion Energy.<\/p>\n
