The stock fell sharply from its October high of $4.57 to a low of $1.70 in November. Since then, the price has recovered slightly. It is now trading around $2.28. That is about 35% higher than the November low.

Even with this bounce, warning signs are starting to show. The recent stability may not last much longer.

Looking at the daily price chart, the overall trend is still weak. The stock has been falling for months. It remains below a key trend indicator known as the Supertrend. This indicator has stayed red the entire time. When that happens, it usually means the downtrend is still active.

A risky chart pattern has also formed. The stock created a sharp drop followed by a slow upward move. This pattern is often seen before another leg down. It suggests the recent recovery could be temporary.

The price has also slipped below several important support levels. These levels often act as floors during pullbacks. Losing them makes the stock more vulnerable.

If the selling pressure returns, Plug Power could fall toward $1.56. That level sits well below current prices. It would mean a drop of around 30% from where the stock trades now.

There is one way this bearish view could be wrong. If the stock breaks above the upper range of its recent climb, momentum could flip. In that case, the price could move toward $3.15. That level acts as a major resistance area.

Beyond the charts, the company itself is facing serious challenges. Several analysts have turned more cautious. Cowen recently cut its price target from $4 to $2.

Other major firms like Susquehanna, Morgan Stanley, and BMO have also lowered their views in recent months. Many are worried about Plug Power’s ability to grow.

Another concern is dilution. Shareholders are voting on whether to double the number of authorized shares. The proposed increase is from 1.5 billion to 3 billion shares.

Management says this would give the company flexibility. Investors often read this as a signal that more shares could be issued. That usually hurts existing shareholders.

Plug Power already has a long history of dilution. The share count has jumped from 214 million in 2018 to about 1.2 billion today.

This happened as losses piled up. The company lost $2.1 billion in the last financial year alone. Over the past 5 years, losses have crossed $5.2 billion.

Plug Power has repeatedly raised money to stay afloat. The most recent move involved $375 million raised through convertible notes. More fundraising may still be needed.

Profits remain out of reach. The company’s order backlog is also shrinking. That adds more pressure going forward.

At the same time, many investors are betting against the stock. Short interest has climbed close to 25%. This shows a lot of traders expect further downside.

In some cases, heavy short interest can lead to sudden rallies. That happens when short sellers rush to cover. Still, for now, the data suggests that confidence in Plug Power remains fragile.

Plug Power shares have calmed down after a rough few months.
