{"id":104096,"date":"2026-01-05T11:41:59","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T16:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/?p=104096"},"modified":"2026-01-05T11:41:59","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T16:41:59","slug":"phillies-bring-in-yankees-legend-don-mattingly-as-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.businessupturn.com\/usa\/phillies-bring-in-yankees-legend-don-mattingly-as-coach\/104096\/","title":{"rendered":"Phillies bring in Yankees legend Don Mattingly as coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-path-to-node=\"1\"><span class=\"\">The Philadelphia Phillies have made a big move by hiring Don Mattingly as their new bench coach.<\/span><span class=\"\"> Mattingly is a true legend in the sport and spent his entire playing career with the New York Yankees.<\/span><span class=\"\"> He was one of the best hitters of his time and even won the Most Valuable Player award.<\/span><span class=\"\"> Now he is bringing all that experience to help lead the Phillies in the 2026 season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"2\"><span class=\"\">This hiring is a special moment for the Mattingly family.<\/span><span class=\"\"> Don will be working in the same organization as his son Preston.<\/span><span class=\"\"> Preston is currently the general manager for the Phillies.<\/span><span class=\"\"> This means a father and son will be working together to try and win a championship.<\/span><span class=\"\"> It is rare to see family members hold such high roles on the same team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\"><span class=\"\">The Phillies manager is very excited about this new addition.<\/span><span class=\"\"> Rob Thomson has known Mattingly for years and they previously worked together in New York.<\/span><span class=\"\"> He believes Mattingly\u2019s smarts and character make him a perfect fit for the clubhouse.<\/span><span class=\"\"> Mattingly has a lot of experience leading teams as a manager for the Dodgers and the Marlins.<\/span><span class=\"\"> He is known for being a great leader and a steady hand in the dugout.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><span class=\"\">Before coming to Philadelphia Mattingly spent the last few seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays.<\/span><span class=\"\"> He was with them during their recent run to the World Series where they barely lost in the final game.<\/span><span class=\"\"> He decided to leave that role after his contract ended to find a new opportunity.<\/span><span class=\"\"> He replaces another coach who is moving into a different position within the team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">Fans are happy to see the man known as \u201cDonnie Baseball\u201d join the squad. He was a nine-time winner for his defensive skills and a great hitter too. Even though he is sixty four years old he still has a lot of energy for the game.
