Former Representative Pete Meijer, on Monday, launched a bid to run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, joining a crowded GOP primary for the primary for the seat to replace Senator Debbie Stabenow next fall.<\/p>\n
In his statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, Meijer wrote, \u201cWe are in dark and uncertain times, but we have made it through worse.\u201d He continued that similarly to the challenges we are facing, the country is also great. If the Americans were to see another \u201cgreat American century,\u201d then the leaders are required to be bold, workaholic and not someone who can be bought.<\/p>\n
Meijer lost his House seat last cycle to a candidate who backed by former president Donald Trump. The challenge took on after Meijer after he joined nine other House Republicans in voting to impeach Trump following January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. However, Meijer\u2019s challenger John Gibbs, ultimately lost to Representative Hillary Scholten.<\/p>\n
However, the Michigan Republican is already facing a challenging terrain as former Representative Mike Rogers, who was sought after by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and James Craig, former Detroit Police Chief, are among some of the names seeking the GOP endorsement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
