As Stranger Things readies fans for its climactic fifth and final season, the show’s iconic “California” house—where the Byers family and Eleven relocated in Season 4—has officially changed hands. Though portrayed as a sunny coastal California home on screen, the real-life location is actually nestled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Originally listed for \$675,000 earlier this year, the property sold this past Friday for a lesser amount, according to real estate sources familiar with the sale, as reported by TMZ.
The house played a memorable role in both exterior and interior scenes, becoming instantly recognizable to fans of the hit Netflix series. Spanning 4,350 square feet, the residence includes four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a serene backyard pond. After its initial purchase in 2021, the property was repurposed as a short-term rental, much like the original Byers home from Seasons 1 through 3, which also garnered attention as a pop-culture vacation destination. Since its appearance on the show, the Albuquerque house has quietly drawn crowds, with fans frequently stopping by to snap photos.
The buyers of the property have chosen to remain anonymous for now, and it remains unclear whether their purchase was fueled by fandom or a simple interest in owning a home with unique pop-culture cachet. The sale was brokered by Cindy Gomez of Realty One of New Mexico, who represented the purchasing party.
This real estate development comes just as Stranger Things fans gear up for the show’s final chapter. Netflix recently revealed that Season 5 will be released in three volumes, with the first installment dropping in November 2025. Anticipation is at an all-time high, as Netflix also confirmed over 250 million impressions for the finale’s announcement. The sale of such a recognizable piece of the Stranger Things universe feels fittingly timed, echoing the show’s own grand farewell as it prepares to wrap up a cultural era that’s spanned nearly a decade.
