Tom Felton, the actor most of us remember as Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter movies, just shared some exciting news. He’s officially joining the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Not just that, he’ll be performing in the play for a solid 19 weeks! His first show will kick off on November 11, 2025, and he’ll take his final bow on March 22, 2026.
What makes this even more special is that this will be Felton’s first time ever performing on Broadway. Yup, after more than a decade away from playing Draco (14 years, to be exact, his last time was in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011), he’s back in the wizarding world and this time, live on stage.
Now, this has reignited curiosity among fans, many are wondering if The Cursed Child will ever be made into a full-on movie. There’s no confirmation yet, but the excitement is definitely real.
Interestingly, while quite a few original Harry Potter actors have stayed connected to the franchise in one way or another, none of them have returned to play their original roles in a Broadway show or similar production, until now. So Felton is really breaking new ground here.
Others from the cast have popped up in more unusual Harry Potter spin-offs. For example, the Phelps twins (Oliver and James, aka Fred and George Weasley) have taken part in Harry Potter-themed shows like Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, which is basically a magical cooking competition that aired on the Food Network.
Also, some of the main trio, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione), and Rupert Grint (Ron), did briefly reprise their roles, but not in a movie or a play. They filmed scenes for a theme park ride called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which you can check out at Universal Studios in Orlando. That ride came out after the movie series ended, so technically, they got to play their characters a little longer than the others.
Another fun fact? Imelda Staunton, who played the wickedly pink and evil Dolores Umbridge, also came back for a new ride called Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. It launched in May 2025 at Universal’s latest theme park, Epic Universe. Since her first appearance as Umbridge was in 2007, and this ride came out in 2025, she’s officially played the same character for 18 years straight. That makes her the second longest-running character actor in the franchise.
But now that Felton is returning as Draco for The Cursed Child, he’s stepping into that long-term role territory too.
So, whether you’re into Broadway, still obsessed with the Potterverse, or just feeling nostalgic, this is a big deal. Magic is definitely in the air again.
Will Tom Felton Appear in the New Harry Potter TV Series?
Now that Tom Felton is stepping back into his iconic role as Draco Malfoy for the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Broadway play, it’s got fans buzzing with a big question, could he also return in HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series?
It’s a fair thought! After all, if he’s open to playing Draco again on stage, maybe he’d be down for appearing in the new show too. Many longtime fans would probably love to see him pop up, even if not as Draco, maybe as a brand-new character, like a Hogwarts professor or someone mysterious from the wizarding world.
But here’s the catch. Reports say that HBO and the team working on the series have made it clear: they don’t plan to bring back any of the original movie cast in acting roles. They want a completely fresh start, with new actors playing the iconic characters.
That said, it’s not a total goodbye from Felton.
According to Daily Mail, Tom will still be involved in the upcoming HBO series, but not in front of the camera. Instead, he’ll be working behind the scenes in some way. They haven’t spilled the tea on exactly what he’s doing, whether it’s consulting, producing, or just giving magical vibes from the sidelines, but he’s part of the process.
So even though we won’t see Felton’s face on-screen, he’s still contributing to the next generation of Harry Potter. That’s a pretty cool way to stay connected to the franchise while letting a new cast take the spotlight.
And here’s something even cooler: the upcoming show has apparently already fixed one of the biggest problems from the original movies (though they haven’t said exactly what it is yet). So with Felton involved and the creators learning from past mistakes, the new series might just bring the magic back in a whole new way.
