For fans of Heartstopper, the end of Season 3 brought more than just emotional closure. There’s probably one question that’s been on your mind ever since Season 3 ended: What’s next for Charlie and Nick?
Season 3, which dropped in October 2024, really hit fans in the feels. It brought deeper character growth, honest and emotional conversations, and, of course, that beautifully soft love story between Charlie and Nick that we’ve all grown to adore. It was raw, relatable, and full of moments that stuck with us long after the credits rolled.
But ever since that final episode, the big mystery has been whether or not we’ll get a Season 4. Will we get to see more of their journey? More of their group of friends navigating love, identity, and growing up?
Well, we finally have an answer.
But fair warning: it’s not quite what fans were expecting. It’s a bit of a twist that might take some time to process.
Will there be a ‘Heartstopper’ season 4?
On April 22, 2025, exactly three years since Heartstopper first hit our screens, Netflix announced that many had been dreading: Season 3 would be the last. But before you start spiralling, take a breath, because Heartstopper isn’t over just yet.
Instead of continuing with another season, the series will wrap up with something even more special: a feature-length film.
That’s right, Nick and Charlie’s story is getting a full movie finale.
The film will bring Alice Oseman’s final volume, Heartstopper: Volume 6, to life. It’ll also pull in some of the tender, intimate moments from Oseman’s Nick and Charlie novella, giving fans a truly heartfelt send-off. Alice herself is fully involved in the process, just like she’s been all along, and she’s calling this the “magical conclusion” the characters and their fans deserve.
Why is there a Heartstopper movie instead of a Season 4?
It turns out this decision was rooted in both practicality and storytelling. Oseman has been open about how demanding the last few years have been, from writing the books to adapting them for TV. After Season 3 wrapped, she took a break before diving back into Volume 6 in late 2024. And with only one volume left to adapt, stretching it into a full season didn’t quite make sense.
Choosing a film format means she can finish Charlie and Nick’s journey in a way that’s emotionally rich, without the pressure of episodic pacing or production crunch. It also opens the door to explore bigger, more cinematic themes, like preparing for university, facing the reality of long-distance relationships, and figuring out what love looks like as you grow up.
And if you’ve been following the show’s structure, the move tracks perfectly:
-
Season 1 covered Volumes 1 and 2
-
Season 2 adapted Volume 3
-
Season 3 took on Volumes 4 and 5
Now, with just Volume 6 remaining, a film feels like a natural and meaningful way to bring it all to a close.
So yes, it’s goodbye to the seasons. But not goodbye to Heartstopper. One last chapter is still on its way, and it’s going to be big.
