While The Witcher TV series has enjoyed considerable success, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on the next installment in the video game series. The Witcher 4, known internally as Polaris, is still in the works, and developer CD Projekt Red recently discussed their vision for the upcoming RPG.
During a recent investor call, CD Projekt Red CEO Michal Nowakowski shed some light on the direction of the game. Confirming that The Witcher 4 will remain true to its RPG roots, Nowakowski emphasized the studio’s commitment to innovation. He stated, “The next Witcher game is definitely still a role-playing game.
However, there will be some changes versus The Witcher 3. We don’t want to be stuck in the same spot. We always want to push the boundaries and discover new ways of telling the story. We want to move in the next direction; you may expect new things in the next Witcher game.”
While Nowakowski didn’t provide specifics on these “new things,” he did reveal some insights into the development process. CD Projekt Red currently has a team of 407 developers dedicated to Polaris, with an additional 56 personnel working on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion. Smaller teams are also focusing on the new IP Hayder and providing support for developer Molasses Flood on the Witcher spinoff, codenamed Sirius.
In terms of marketing strategy, CD Projekt Red is taking a more cautious approach. While they didn’t disclose when fans can expect the first trailer for The Witcher 4, they assured that it won’t be a repeat of the prolonged wait experienced with Cyberpunk 2077, which saw its first trailer released eight years before the game’s launch.
