As Marvel kicks off filming for Avengers: Doomsday, excitement is climbing higher every day. Fans are buzzing with theories, and one question keeps coming back—could Scarlett Johansson appear again, even though Natasha Romanoff’s story ended in Avengers: Endgame?
Recently, a post on X stirred up speculation by claiming, “Scarlett Johansson will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. She will not appear as Black Widow.” That was enough to spark hope, especially since Marvel has played with surprising returns before, like the talk around Robert Downey Jr. showing up in a new role.
But Scarlett herself has addressed the topic. In her Vanity Fair cover story, she admitted that she still misses her Marvel family, but she doesn’t see herself stepping back into Natasha’s shoes. She explained that her character’s arc already feels complete. Natasha sacrificed herself on Vormir in Endgame, a powerful ending that helped the Avengers secure the Soul Stone. Scarlett said it wouldn’t feel right to undo that just for the sake of bringing her back.
So while rumors suggest she could appear in some other form—maybe a cameo, a flashback, or even a multiverse twist—Scarlett seems firm about not returning as Black Widow.
Outside of Marvel, though, her career is thriving. Her latest movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, has become a box office giant. Released on July 4, 2025, it has already made more than $830 million worldwide, proving Scarlett’s star power goes far beyond the Marvel universe.
For now, fans may have to accept that Natasha’s sacrifice remains one of Marvel’s most meaningful goodbyes. Still, with Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon, Marvel has taught us one thing—never say never.
