Recent reports suggest that Robert Pattinson may be joining the Dune movie franchise, directed by the legendary Denis Villeneuve. The Dune series, known for its grand space opera storyline, has captivated audiences with its diverse cast, and Pattinson might be stepping into the role of a villain named Scytale. According to Deadline, the third installment of Dune will adapt Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune: Messiah, and Pattinson’s character, Scytale, is a mysterious, shape-shifting figure who plots to overthrow Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Scytale was previously portrayed by Martin McDougall in the 2003 Children of Dune miniseries, which also starred Alec Newman, Susan Sarandon, and James McAvoy. If these reports are accurate, Pattinson could begin work on this highly anticipated sci-fi epic before diving into the second installment of The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves. While Dune 3 is reportedly aiming for a summer filming schedule, Pattinson has stated that he expects to begin filming The Batman by the end of 2025. The superhero film is now slated for release on October 1, 2027, after originally being scheduled for October 3, 2025.
