Only Murders in the Building is preparing for its much-awaited season 5, with Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin once again reuniting to crack a new mystery. This time, the trio will be investigating the shocking death of Lester, the beloved doorman of the Arconia, whose body was discovered in the fountain during the finale of season 4.
In a recent conversation with Variety, Martin Short hinted that the upcoming season may also serve as the series’ swan song. While there has been no official word from the show’s creators, Short suggested that five seasons might be the perfect place to wrap up the hit Hulu series. “I think that the reality is, you know when it feels like it’s past its time. I think everyone’s amazed that it’s gone this long. This is a long time in streaming to go five years,” Short explained, comparing the decision to classic shows that ended at their peak rather than risk declining in quality.
Even with speculation about the ending, fans can expect the usual mix of humor, eccentricity, and suspense that has defined the show since its debut. Season 4 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger with Oliver and Loretta’s wedding interrupted by Lester’s sudden death, setting the stage for the podcasting trio’s next big case.
Season 5 also boasts a star-studded cast alongside the main trio. Returning and new faces include Meryl Streep, Renee Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Bobby Cannavale, Keegan-Michael Key, Nathan Lane, Christoph Waltz, and Dianne Wiest, among others. Their addition promises to make the season even more compelling, balancing comedy, emotion, and plenty of shocking twists.
