John Krasinski has confirmed he’s open to making a cameo in the upcoming spinoff of The Office, titled The Paper, which is set to premiere in September. Speaking at the premiere of his latest film, Fountain of Youth, starring alongside Natalie Portman, Krasinski revealed he’d happily step back into the shoes of Jim Halpert if asked.

Known for his role as Jim on NBC’s hit mockumentary series, Krasinski said he hasn’t been officially approached yet but is ready to appear if Greg Daniels, the show’s creator, gives the call. “I’d do anything for that guy,” Krasinski told Entertainment Tonight, adding, “[Daniels] calls, I’ll show up.”

NBC announced The Paper on May 12. The new series focuses on the staff of a struggling local newspaper called The Truth Teller, set in the Midwest. Greg Daniels described the show as exploring the challenges faced by traditional local news in the digital age. “It’s about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that’s much reduced from its glory days. It’s a fruitful premise,” Daniels said, also explaining how the internet has been the villain by pulling away ad revenue and giving away news for free.

While Steve Carell confirmed he won’t be returning as Michael Scott, he praised the spinoff’s concept as fresh and exciting. Krasinski agreed, expressing confidence that the new lead, Gleeson, will do a great job. He also emphasized that he’d gladly come back to the franchise if the opportunity arises.

The Paper will debut this September on Peacock, where The Office is still available for streaming.
