James Gunn isn’t stepping away from the Man of Steel just yet. After the box office success of Superman, Warner Bros. boss David Zaslav has confirmed that Gunn will once again take the reins as both writer and director for the next chapter of the “super-family.”

Earlier this year, Gunn hinted during his press tour for Superman that he was already working on a follow-up film. While he clarified that the project wouldn’t be a straightforward Superman 2, he assured fans that David Corenswet would return in the iconic role. In fact, in a fan interaction online, Gunn teased: “Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!! This is the same movie. Superman has a major role. It’s not Superman 2.”

What’s Next in the DC Pipeline?

Although plot details for the Superman continuation remain tightly under wraps, DC Studios has several other major projects on the horizon. Gunn is currently juggling work on Peacemaker Season 2, while the studio is also gearing up for the release of Supergirl, which recently dropped its first poster online. Another intriguing project, Clayface, is expected to start filming by the end of this year.

Speaking about Clayface during an interview with CBS Mornings, Gunn explained: “Clayface is a totally different thing. Although it’s in the same universe, it’s a complete horror film, and that’s one of the things we want to do. There’s not a company style. It’s not like every movie is gonna be like Superman. The artists and the directors, and the writers who create each one will bring their own sense to it. … We don’t want people being bored.”

On top of that, fans can also look forward to The Batman: Part II, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Gotham’s Dark Knight. Gunn revealed the film will be released under the Elseworlds label, meaning it won’t directly connect to the current DC Studios continuity.

Superman’s Success

The first Superman film under Gunn’s leadership was warmly received by audiences, with many praising the fresh yet classic approach to the character. Viewers especially loved the chemistry between David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, a pairing that quickly became one of the movie’s highlights.

With Gunn’s creative vision and DC’s packed slate of upcoming projects, fans can expect plenty of variety—from superhero spectacle to darker horror-inspired storytelling—as the studio continues building its new cinematic universe.
