Fans were stunned to hear that Euphoria star Eric Dane has been diagnosed with ALS, a serious and progressive neurological disease. The news came as a shock to many, and it has left people wondering whether they’ll still get to see him on screen—especially in the highly anticipated third season of HBO’s Euphoria.
Despite the life-changing diagnosis, Dane appears determined to keep going. In a statement shared with People magazine on April 10, the actor confirmed that he still plans to return to work on Euphoria when filming resumes next week. Dane plays Cal Jacobs in the hit series, a complex character at the center of many intense storylines.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS,” Dane said in the statement. “I’m grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.” He also shared that he feels “fortunate” to be able to continue working and asked fans and the public for privacy as he and his family adjust to this new reality.
ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis—also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease—is a progressive condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, gradually leading to a loss of muscle control. According to the Mayo Clinic, there is currently no cure, and the disease typically worsens over time.
As for Euphoria Season 3, fans have been eagerly awaiting what’s next since Season 2 aired back in 2022. While HBO hasn’t announced an official premiere date yet, Dane’s involvement gives hope that his character’s storyline may still continue.
