At the recent Muju Film Festival, director Uhm Taehwa—widely known for his award-winning film Concrete Utopia—gave fans a heartfelt look into his creative process and recent projects. Sitting down with Editor-in-Chief Joo Sung Chul, he opened up about his collaboration with BTS’ Kim Taehyung (V) for IU’s emotionally gripping music video Love Wins All. Released earlier this year, the short film-style video captured viewers with its haunting, post-apocalyptic visuals and powerful performances by both stars.

One of the standout moments during the talk was Uhm’s revelation about how quickly the entire music video was filmed. He explained that the shoot had to be squeezed into just two days because Taehyung was set to enlist in the military right after. “He literally cut his hair the day after filming and then enlisted,” Uhm shared. Despite the rushed schedule, Taehyung’s acting was filled with sincerity and emotional depth—something the director greatly admired. Uhm praised Taehyung’s work ethic and passion, noting how clear it was that he truly wanted to act and was fully committed to the role.

The discussion then touched on something fans have been hoping for: a future film project featuring Taehyung. Joo Sung Chul mentioned the outpouring of fan requests urging Uhm to work with the BTS singer again. In response, Uhm said he’d be absolutely thrilled to team up once more. He even joked that he’d be happy to invent a role just to have the chance to work with Taehyung again. “He was so passionate,” Uhm said warmly, “and that’s when I realized he has a real desire to pursue acting more seriously.”

Adding to the behind-the-scenes insights, Uhm shared a touching story about the final scene in Love Wins All. Originally, the ending was planned to be dramatic and symbolic, with Taehyung and IU performing in wedding attire before diving into a crowd. But time constraints made it nearly impossible to shoot. It was Taehyung who suggested a simpler, more emotional alternative. At first, Uhm was reluctant to let go of his original vision—but eventually agreed, and in the end, felt that Taehyung’s version worked even better. “He talked me into it, and he was right,” Uhm admitted.

Now that Taehyung’s military discharge is set for June 10, 2025, fans are eagerly watching to see what’s next for him. With Uhm Taehwa clearly open to working together again, the possibility of a full-length film collaboration seems not just hopeful—but maybe even inevitable.
