Zach Wilson, the starting quarterback for the New York Jets following Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury, has been sidelined due to a concussion he sustained during the game against Miami on December 17. As a result, Wilson missed the Jets’ recent home game against the Commanders and is set to miss the Week 17 matchup against the Browns as well, as he has yet to clear the concussion protocol.
Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Wilson’s absence from the upcoming game against the Browns during a press conference, also stating that Wilson’s return wasn’t worth rushing given the team’s current 6-9 record and elimination from postseason contention.
Wilson, in his rookie season, has started 12 games this year, with a record of 4-7 as a starter. He has completed 60.1 percent of his passes, throwing for eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
In Wilson’s absence, Trevor Siemian, who led the Jets to a win against Washington in his last start, will be starting against the Browns. Siemian’s performance against Washington was modest, with 217 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. However, in his appearance against the Dolphins after replacing Wilson, Siemian threw two interceptions.
The starting quarterback for the Jets in their season finale against the Patriots is yet to be determined.
