Tory Lanez, the Canadian singer currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, was recently stabbed in the prison yard at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Thankfully, his injuries are not life-threatening, and he was quickly transported to a hospital in Bakersfield for treatment.
According to reports from TMZ, the stabbing occurred just one week after Lanez posted a photo on social media, showing off his muscular physique. The post seemed to tease a new album, sparking curiosity about whether his social media activity could have influenced his interactions with other inmates. Some are questioning if the timing of the incident is more than just a coincidence.
As someone with experience in corrections, I can tell you that while stabbings aren’t rare in prison, they almost never happen without a reason. There could have been various causes, from personal debts to something more personal. The fact that this happened so soon after Lanez’s post suggests it might be related to something that went down between him and other inmates, but it’s definitely not something that would have just happened randomly.
Lanez’s prison sentence stems from the infamous 2020 incident, where he shot Megan Thee Stallion, an event that received massive media attention and sparked widespread anger. Megan was seriously injured, and the case led to a prolonged legal battle between the two stars. After a detailed trial with multiple conflicting versions of the story, Lanez was convicted.
Even while behind bars, the legal drama between Lanez and Megan continues. In December 2024, Megan Thee Stallion filed for a restraining order against Lanez, claiming he was waging a “psychological warfare” campaign against her. She accused him of coordinating online harassment through a group of bloggers who were spreading false information and damaging her reputation.
Lanez’s legal team has denied these allegations, but it only adds more tension to the already strained relationship between the two artists. It’s interesting that these accusations came around the same time as Lanez’s potential album release, which could be stirring up additional controversy.
As for the stabbing, I don’t think it had much to do with his ongoing issues with Megan. If other inmates wanted to attack him over that situation, they would have likely acted right when he first entered prison. This incident seems more likely to be tied to typical prison dynamics, where things like politics and personal conflicts among inmates can trigger violence.
