Cashel Barnett, known for his appearance on Love Island, was recently arrested on domestic violence charges in Utah. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Monday, May 9. According to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Entertainment Weekly, Barnett faces two third-degree felony counts of aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, along with two misdemeanor assault charges.
A judge issued a warrant for his arrest three days after the booking, and a no-bail warrant was also issued by Deputy District Attorney Ronda Woolson. The arrest followed a lethality assessment involving Barnett’s former partner and mother of their child, who reportedly feared for her life if Barnett was not detained.
The alleged incident occurred on April 10 but was reported to authorities on April 25. According to the ex-partner’s statement, during an attempt to calm Barnett with a hug, he reacted violently—slapping her arms away, following her to a bedroom, lifting her by the neck, slamming her onto a bed, and choking her—all witnessed by their child.
Barnett’s attorney, Andrew K. Deesing, confirmed that upon learning of the arrest warrant, Barnett promptly hired counsel and surrendered to the court.
A detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday as the case proceeds.
