Actress and Euphoria star Hunter Schafer was among the demonstrators arrested during a pro-Palestinian protest outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York on February 26, 2024, coinciding with President Joe Biden’s appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), aimed to call attention to President Biden’s support for Israel amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which began following Hamas attacks in October. The demonstration sought to pressure Biden to cease backing the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza, which activists label as genocidal.
Schafer, 25, was seen wearing a “ceasefire now” t-shirt and being taken into custody by law enforcement officers. While initial reports from JVP indicated that 50 protesters were arrested, the NYPD stated that only 30 individuals were detained, with charges including trespassing and disorderly conduct. Despite the arrests, all demonstrators were released after receiving summonses.
The protest featured banners with slogans such as “Jews to Biden: Stop Arming Genocide” and “Let Gaza Live,” underscoring the demand for an end to violence in the region. Another banner displayed the message “Never Again for Anyone,” evoking historical parallels and emphasizing the importance of preventing atrocities against all communities.
Hunter Schafer’s participation in political activism, particularly in support of Palestinian rights, garnered praise from JVP’s communications director, Sonya Meyerson-Knox. Meyerson-Knox applauded Schafer’s dedication to advocating for Palestinian freedom and justice, aligning with the broader goals of the demonstration.
