Why Jack Nicholson once spent three months living naked

Famous actor Jack Nicholson once went through a three-month period of living completely naked, and you might wonder why this Hollywood legend, known for his roles in some of the best films ever, would choose to do that. Despite being celebrated as one of Tinseltown’s greatest seducers, Nicholson had some insecurities about his body.

According to Erik Hedegaard, a journalist from Rolling Stone, Nicholson decided he was done feeling ashamed of how he looked. To tackle this, he embarked on a journey of self-acceptance by spending three months roaming around his home in the buff, getting in touch with his inner naturalist and working on his body confidence—especially in preparation for an upcoming sex scene.

“In the late sixties, as a form of self-help, he spent three months walking around nude, regardless of who dropped by, including his daughter,” Hedegaard shared. While it’s impressive to have such confidence, it’s hard to imagine Nicholson’s family, especially his daughter, feeling the same way about his bold approach. Nevertheless, his unconventional method of body positivity seemed to yield some results.

“I felt it was totally necessary,” Nicholson told Hedegaard. “I’m self-conscious about my body image. I don’t have a great body shot. And it was an era of ‘Let’s get free.’ I know it drove my oldest daughter insane. I just wanted to feel more comfortable in my own skin. But it didn’t completely resolve everything, like many experiments you think you’ve finished with yourself, but really, you haven’t.”

Interestingly, Nicholson enjoyed his time of nudity so much that he continued to embrace it even after those three months ended. According to Five Easy Decades, a biography about him, he even attended interviews for the film Drive, He Said completely nude! You can only imagine how the journalist felt trying to maintain professionalism in that scenario!
