It’s plausible that the palace decided to disclose Kate Middleton’s battle with cancer to quell the growing speculation about her health. The announcement did succeed in making the world reflect on the spread of rumors about the princess. However, this newfound awareness has not been beneficial for Prince William.
In her poignant video, Kate bravely shares her cancer diagnosis and mentions how William has been a great source of comfort and reassurance during her recovery and treatment. She and William have been managing this situation privately for the sake of their young family.
The announcement garnered sympathy from countless individuals worldwide, who understood the delay in sharing the distressing update about her health and her absence since a surgery that was initially deemed not serious. However, the Royal Family’s PR management has not received any praise, as they continue to face criticism for their handling of the situation, especially regarding the photoshopped Mother’s Day picture and the announcement of her appearance at church on Easter despite knowing she was about to share her diagnosis publicly.
Among all the criticism, Prince William seems to be bearing the brunt of it. Despite the emotional backdrop set by the simple setting of the video, Kate’s casual clothes, and her solitary presence, forgiveness for Prince William’s perceived absence during Kate’s time of need is still not forthcoming.
