Amidst this controversy, Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp, who is Jewish, has taken a contrasting stance, voicing his strong support for Israel on social media platforms. Schnapp’s public support for Israel even extended offline, as evidenced by a viral TikTok video in which he and his friends distributed “Zionism is sexy” stickers in a cafe.
However, this has ignited a heated debate online, especially among supporters of Barrera, who criticize Hollywood for penalizing her while Schnapp’s outspoken political views seem to have gone unchecked. Numerous social media users have expressed outrage, calling Schnapp’s comments “disgusting” and “sickening” and demanding that Netflix remove him from Stranger Things 5.
Despite the controversy surrounding Schnapp’s remarks, it appears unlikely that Netflix will remove him from the upcoming season of Stranger Things. Other studios like Spyglass Media have taken a zero-tolerance stance towards perceived antisemitism, leading to Barrera’s dismissal from Scream 7. If Netflix follows a similar policy, Schnapp may not face repercussions for his statements.
