Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale have something exciting to look forward to! Hulu’s upcoming series The Testaments, a sequel to the hit dystopian drama, is officially moving forward with its casting. Rising actress Lucy Halliday has landed a key role as Daisy, one of the three main protagonists in Margaret Atwood’s novel, which serves as the foundation for the series.
Set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments follows Daisy, a teenager living in Canada who makes a shocking discovery—she has a deep, hidden connection to the oppressive regime of Gilead. Her story will unfold alongside two other major characters: Agnes, played by Chase Infiniti, and Aunt Lydia, played once again by Ann Dowd, who is reprising her role from the original series.
The show is being developed by Hulu and MGM Television, the same powerhouse team behind The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s based on Atwood’s 2019 novel, which won the Booker Prize and was so highly anticipated that Hulu and MGM locked in the rights even before the book hit shelves.
Behind the scenes, the series is in expert hands. Bruce Miller, the mastermind behind The Handmaid’s Tale, has shifted his focus to The Testaments, stepping back from showrunner duties on the final season of the original show to ensure this sequel gets the attention it deserves. However, he’s still involved as an executive producer, alongside Warren Littlefield and Steve Stark, both of whom played major roles in bringing The Handmaid’s Tale to life.
As for Lucy Halliday, she’s a rising star in the industry. She made her film debut in the 2022 British drama Blue Jean, where her outstanding performance earned her a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actress and a nomination at the British Independent Film Awards. She’s also set to appear in California Schemin’, an upcoming film directed by James McAvoy.
While Hulu hasn’t announced an official release date yet, the fact that casting is in full swing means production should be gearing up soon. With The Testaments, fans will get a fresh perspective on Gilead, exploring how the world has changed and how resistance continues to grow.
Stay tuned—this sequel is shaping up to be just as gripping as The Handmaid’s Tale.
