Paul Nichols, the longtime show publicist behind Baywatch, has passed away at the age of 77, just 12 days after the death of his wife, Linda. Nichols played a pivotal role in the iconic beachside drama’s success, working closely with stars like Pamela Anderson and Yasmine Bleeth.
Starting his career as a DJ, Nichols moved into television, eventually landing a key role on The Mike Douglas Show in Philadelphia. Over the years, he worked with prominent TV personalities and companies, including John Davidson, Group W, All American Television, and Sony Pictures Television. In 1991, Nichols joined The Lippen Group and was instrumental in keeping Baywatch on the air during a critical period, helping the show become a massive hit with weekly audiences of 1.1 million and generating $70 million in revenue.
Born in Delaware, Nichols graduated from Penn State University in 1970 with a degree in broadcast journalism. Later in life, he and his wife Linda, a senior executive at TV marketing firm Promax, moved to Texas to be closer to family.
Paul Nichols is survived by his siblings, their partners, two nephews, and a niece. His contributions to television, particularly Baywatch, have left a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
