From the moment they realized something was wrong to his passing, there was very little time. She called him her soulmate and said no amount of time together would ever have been enough. She urged people to hold their loved ones close and love them deeply.

Gil also left behind a message that he wanted shared after his death. In his note, he reflected on his life with gratitude. He said his journey had been amazing. He spoke about the opportunities he had and the people he met along the way. He said the love he gave and received made his 82 years meaningful. He talked about moving from Arkansas to New York, then Los Angeles, and finally settling in North Georgia with Janet, his wife of 18 years. He called life a great ride and said it was now time for it to end. He encouraged people to spend time only on things that bring joy and love. He ended by saying he would see everyone somewhere in the cosmos.

Gil Gerard is survived by his son, Gilbert Gib Vincent Gerard. He shared his son with his former wife, actress Connie Sellecca.
