Fans are excited about her role, but many are also curious about her life off-screen, especially her long-time husband, Tom Ackerley. Tom Ackerley was born and raised in the U.K. He started in the entertainment world as an extra in the first three Harry Potter films. Later, he studied at Godalming College and gradually moved behind the camera. He worked as a floor runner, production assistant, and assistant director before building a career supporting major film projects. Margot once joked on The Graham Norton Show about his early Harry Potter role, saying he was a Slytherin extra who got pushed out of the way by Draco in the third film.
In 2024, Tom co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment with Margot, their childhood friend Sophia Kerr, and colleague Josey McNamara. The company focuses on female-led films and has produced hits like I, Tonya, Promising Young Woman, Birds of Prey, and Barbie, many starring Margot. Tom has said the goal of the company is to amplify emerging talent and create space for female-driven stories.
Margot and Tom first met in 2013 on the set of Suite Française. She was acting, and he worked as a third assistant director. At the time, Margot said she wasn’t looking for a relationship and described herself as “the ultimate single gal.” Their friendship grew slowly, and she later admitted she had feelings for him but wasn’t sure he felt the same. They started dating in 2014, and their relationship has lasted over ten years.
The couple married in a private ceremony on Australia’s Gold Coast in December 2016. They kept the wedding mostly private and only shared a playful Instagram post afterward showing a kiss and a ring. They’ve balanced personal life and work closely, often saying they are “24 hours a day together,” blending family and career seamlessly. Their first child, a son, was born in late 2024. Margot has shared that Tom helps her through self-doubt, telling her, “You do this every time. You’ll be fine,” whenever she worries about a new project.
