Elijah Blue Allman, the son of renowned singer Cher and Gregg Allman from the Allman Brothers Band, has faced numerous challenges throughout his life, ranging from a tumultuous relationship with his mother to struggles with substance abuse and health issues.
Born on July 10, 1976, in Los Angeles, Allman experienced a turbulent upbringing due to his parents’ divorce at an early age, leading to his father’s absence from his life. Sent to Hyde School, a boarding school in Maine, at the age of 8, he encountered his future bandmate, Renn Hawkey, during his time there.
Allman’s journey into music began shortly after his graduation from school in 1994 when he formed the industrial metal band Deadsy with drummer Alec Puro and producer Josh Abraham. Although not achieving mainstream success, the band developed a dedicated fan base, releasing music and performing together until 2007.
Following Deadsy’s hiatus, Allman ventured into solo work under the name Elijah Blue and the Trapezoids, albeit releasing only a few demos on social media. His musical pursuits took a backseat as he battled Lyme disease, which led to a move to Germany for specialized treatment. During this period, he met Marieangela King, known as Queenie in the rock band KING, whom he married in December 2013.
Allman has spoken publicly about his strained relationship with Cher, citing a lack of emotional support from her during his illness. Additionally, he discussed the challenges of dealing with his mother’s fame and the complexities of their relationship.
In 2017, Allman revealed that he had been sober since 2008, overcoming his struggles with addiction. However, recent events have brought his personal challenges back into the public eye. Cher filed a conservatorship request in December 2023, expressing concerns about his severe mental health and substance abuse issues. Allegations were made by his wife, Marieangela King, that Cher orchestrated his return to rehab after an attempted reconciliation in 2022.
The conservatorship filing suggests that Allman is unable to manage his financial resources due to his mental health and substance abuse issues. Allman has not issued an official statement regarding these recent developments but has posted cryptic messages on social media referring to “Imprisonment via conservatorship.”
