CNN has confirmed the tragic death of actor Adan Canto, known for his roles in TV shows like The Cleaning Lady and Designated Survivor, as well as his portrayal of Sunspot in the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past. Canto passed away on January 8, 2024, at the age of 42 due to appendiceal cancer.
His publicist, Jennifer Allen, acknowledged Canto’s profound spirit and mentioned that those who glimpsed it were forever changed. The Mexican-born actor is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two children: a 3-year-old son named Roman Alder and a daughter, Eve Josephine, who was just a year old at the time of her father’s passing.
Adan Canto and Stephanie Ann Canto first met during the making of the 2014 short film Before Tomorrow, and they tied the knot in 2017. The couple collaborated once again in 2020 on the short film The Shot, with Stephanie playing a role in the movie. Besides her involvement in filmmaking, Stephanie is an artist and ceramics instructor who has previously taught at the New York Film Academy.
At the time of his death, Canto and his family were residing in the Hollywood Hills. Stephanie has not made a public statement about her husband’s passing, and the duration of Canto’s battle with appendix cancer remains unknown.
Tragically, Canto’s death occurred while the FOX TV series The Cleaning Lady was in the midst of filming its third season. However, reports indicate that Canto had not yet participated in the current production of the show. The entertainment industry mourns the loss of a talented actor, and Canto’s legacy will undoubtedly be remembered by those who appreciated his work on both the big and small screens.
